First class, 5th February.

Today, on the 5th of February, we started our first English 1 class with Miss Nilam, a pretty and young lecturer. But firstly, we will briefly introduce ourselves, as the author of this blog. We are running this blog as partners, both females. Andrea Loo and Khor Zhu Zheng. We just completed our Foundation In Commerce in Segi University and pursuing our degree now in Accounting and Finance by Teesside University ( BAAF ). We grow up in a different language educated family. Me, as Andrea typing here, I grew up in an English educated family while Zhu Zheng grew up in a mandarin educated family. We are always excited about English classes as we will learn new vocabulary every time. During our first class today, we did not expect much. We were thinking it would be like the other classes like how the lecturer come in and introduce themselves and start talking about how many assignments we will have in this semester, how many marks will it occupy in our final exams and so on. Miss Nilam was different, she came in, make some jokes and get us to introduce ourselves so that she could know us better and remember our names easier I guess. *giggles*. Later on, she talks about getting a textbook and doing an assignment, which was creating a blog and writing about different opinions every week.

We would like to write about what are we expecting from this English 1 class that we will be attending for 3 months. From our discussion, firstly we would like to improve our communication skills. We would like to communicate more in a good English with other people. I ( Andrea ) communicate in English with my family since young, as my parents don't know mandarin. Even though I do speak everyday, my mum still says that my English is bad and I don't know many words. As for Zhu Zheng, she rarely communicate in English because the main language for her and her family is in mandarin. She also speaks mandarin with all her friends. So in this case, we would really like to improve our communication skills and get to know more new words.

Secondly, we would like to improve our writing skills. We wish Miss Nilam will teach us from the base for a good writing and to produce a quality essay/passage. We would love to learn more about proper use of grammar, and using words that could impress readers in our passage.

Thirdly, we want to improve our reading skills and make it as a habit to be reading. Both of us doesn't like to read at all, no matter in what language. We would like to start reading short novels or newspaper and others, but most importantly, we want to learn to understand what we are reading. To accomplish all these, guess we need a little push from our lecturer, we wish she will help us achieve this at the end of the semester.

That's all for today. Hope you enjoy reading this!
Thanks
